With International Equal Pay Day being celebrated on the 18th of September, 62% of adults think there are large gaps in pay to women compared to men. 19% of those think there are huge gaps.

 

 

·       39% of respondents agree that Ireland has lower gaps in pay to women versus pay to men, compared to the rest of Europe. 11% strongly agree that Ireland has lower gaps.

 

·       71% of adults think that supporting such a day as Worldwide Equal Pay Day in Ireland is important to raise awareness of pay gaps between men and women.

 

 

·       20% of adults have directly experienced pay to men being higher than pay to women in equal roles. 36% have heard of such experiences from family members or friends.

 

·       41% of adults think pay gaps are getting smaller between women and men in recent years. However, 52% think pay gaps are the same as in the recent past.

 

·       12% watched the matches at work as the matches were shown on Workplace TVs. 3% of adults had employers who allowed them to watch the matches but they didn’t watch.

 

·       Of those who have experienced issues with lower pay to women compared to men, 50% say the gap was around 20% or lower. 20% say the gap was around 30% or lower.

38% of Gen Z state that they play online games, with 6% more males (41%) and a high level of females (35%).

 

·       43% of males agree that they have made friends from gaming, while 39% of females said so.

 

·       Instagram (91%) is the most used social platform among Gen Z, followed by WhatsApp (82%), Snapchat (77%) and TikTok (73%).

 

·       72% of online gamers indicate their favourite aspect of gaming is a time to relax and unwind, with females (73%) and males (71%) roughly the same.

 

 

·       59% of online game players play games on their smart devices, with 37% more females (80%) than males (43%), followed by PlayStation which is used by 48% of online players.

 

·       Pinterest (39%), WhatsApp (39%) and Instagram (38%) are the most trusted social media platforms for Gen Z. Facebook (11%), Twitter (14%) and Reddit (18%) are the least trusted platforms.

 

 

·       Gen Z uses social media more often now than in 2018, with the evening (48%) being the most prevalent time of the day.

80% of parents think Gen Z children are not as resilient as they once were due to social media pressure.

 

·       The rate of cyberbullying among youths has largely increased to 28% in 2023 since 2017.

 

·       Snapchat (74%, an increase of 41% from 2017) is the most common place for personal cyberbullying to take place.

 

 

·       Of those who think Gen Z children are not as resilient as they once were, 72% think it’s due to body image pressure followed by Cyberbullying.

 

·       Most youths witnessed cyberbullying on Snapchat (62%), Instagram (48%), and TikTok (44%).

 

 

·       There has been a big drop in the number of youths who are likely to report cyberbullying, down 16% from 2017 to 50%.

 

·       There has been a sharp increase in the rates of witnessing cyberbullying, up 36% from 2017.

 

 

·       Almost 9 in 10 (85%) now think there should be more restrictions on websites and apps in order to prevent cyberbullying. There has been a notable jump in the number of males agreeing.

 63% of women think mums are depicted in clichéd ways in advertising.

 

·      2 in 3 women (66%) think advertisers have now recognised that women are now equally important in purchasing decisions beyond just food.

 

·      48% of adults think most advertising reinforces gender stereotypes.

 

·       Nearly half (48%) of women think the biggest challenge facing women in Ireland this year is getting the work life balance to a happy medium, 45% think the biggest challenge is having children while trying to build a career, and 40% think the challenge is tackling violence against women.

 

·       59% think that advertising has got better in how it depicts women, however only 23% of women think women and girls are portrayed accurately in the media and advertising.

Over half (54%) of adults think women have to over-perform in the workplace to get the same recognition as men.

 

·      Only 18% of employees say their workplace is running events or activities in support of International Women’s Day.

 

·       49% of workplaces who are running events for International Women’s Day have organised motivational or keynote speakers, 21% have team bonding/ team building activities, and 19% are doing gender workshops.

 

·       2 in 3 adults (64%) think women carry a huge guilt burden when they have to take time off to look after sick children and 42% of women think having children has affected their career path.

 

·       51% of adults support gender quotas at senior levels across companies and organisations and 50% think having a gender quota in government is a good idea.

 

·       37% of women have experienced sexism in the workplace and 25% of women have experienced ageism in the workplace.

68% of Irish adults think January is the most depressing month of the year with 31% of these blaming going Back to Work.

 

·      2 in 3 adults (68%) think January is the most depressing month with 63% of these blaming the dark mornings and evenings.

 

·       Of these 31% of adults think January is the most depressing month as they have to return to work, 30% dislike January due to their bad financial situation after Christmas, and 30% feel depressed due to their weight gain after Christmas.

 

·       59% of adults that dislike Winter with most blaming shorter days. Of these 55% dislike the dark mornings, and 50% dislike the bad weather.

 

·       30% of adults feel they suffer from the Winter Blues.

 

·       41% of adults like Winter and of these 57% like it because of Christmas, 43% like it as they have holidays, 41% like the hot drinks.
