With the spread of the Omicron variant, 67% think restrictions need to be tightened for the unvaccinated and 51% agree that recent restrictions were needed for everyone.

 

67% think restrictions need to be tightened for the unvaccinated with 47% agreeing with recent Government restrictions.

 

30% think the government should have waited until the New Year to implement new restrictions, however 51% think it was the right decision.

 

iReach has surveyed adults in Ireland to gain insight into perceptions of government restrictions surrounding the Omicron variant.

 

·       Overall, 47% believed the government needed to tighten restrictions for everyone (50% of women, 44% of men) due to Omicron.

 

·       32% think restrictions should be loosened (36% of men and 27% of women). 47% of 18-24 year olds think restrictions should be loosened, compared to 28% of those aged 55+.

 

 

·       67% think restrictions should be tightened for the unvaccinated. 25-34 are most in favour of additional restrictions for the unvaccinated at 71%. Only 47% of 35-44 year olds say the same.

 

·       Almost 1 in 3 (30%) think the government should have waited until the new year to implement restrictions. More than half (51%) disagree – and think the right decision was made.

 

·       Half (50%) of 18-24 year olds believe the government should have waited until the new year. Those aged 55+ (61%) most agreed with the government’s decision to implement restrictions before the new year.

With the spread of the Omicron variant, 1 in 3 of all adults in Ireland have changed or cancelled overseas travel plans.

 

18% are no longer travelling overseas – including almost 1 in 4 (23%) men.

 12% have postponed travel plans until later in the year.

9% are sticking with their travel plans.

 

iReach has surveyed adults in Ireland to determine how Omicron has affected travel plans during Winter.

 

·       Overall, most (55%) hadn’t planned any holidays – though men were much more likely (64%) to have planned holidays than women (46%).

 

·       18% of all adults in Ireland have cancelled their plans to travel overseas. When considering only those who had plans to travel – almost half (42%) have had to cancel them.

 

 

·       A further 28% of those who planned to travel have postponed their holidays. Almost half (48%) of 25-34 year-olds who had plans have now postponed them.

 

·       Almost 1 in 4 (23%) of those with holiday plans are determined to keep them. This includes over 1 in 3 (35%) of those aged 55+ compared to much lower rates in younger age groups – only 7% of 18-24 year olds and 5% of 25-34 year olds aren’t changing their holiday plans.
