Nearly 2 in 3 Irish adults (59%) picked the correct teams to make it through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

 

·      Brazil favourites to win  the World Cup (22%), followed by France (12%), then Argentina (10%).

 

·       6% think Portugal will win, then England (5%), followed by The Netherlands 3%.

 

·       100% of adults think Morocco will be knocked out of the next round.

 

·       22% of Irish adults still think Brazil will win the World Cup, 17% think Germany will win, 11% think France will win and 11% think Argentina will win.

 

·       10% of adults aren’t following the competition as their home county team have not qualified/ advanced.

 

·       28% of adults in Ireland are not following the World Cup due to human rights concerns with Qatar and 2 in 3 believe Iran should be banned from participation.

 

·       Nearly 2 in 3 adults (62%) think that Iran should have been banned from taking part in the World Cup as they have admitted to supplying drones and other weapons to Russia.

 

·       The majority (86%) of adults think there should be more transparency in how countries are selected to host future World Cups.

 

·       63% of adults think financial transparency is important when protecting the integrity of future World Cup voting to select the Host Countries and 63% think voting transparency is important. 61% think Women’s rights is important and 54% think LGBTQ+ rights are important.

 

 

·       27% of adults were supporting Wales during the World Cup, 26% are supporting Brazil, 25% are supporting England, and 23% were supporting Spain.
