Nearly 2 in 3 Irish adults (59%) picked the correct teams to make it through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

 

·      Brazil favourites to win  the World Cup (22%), followed by France (12%), then Argentina (10%).

 

·       6% think Portugal will win, then England (5%), followed by The Netherlands 3%.

 

·       100% of adults think Morocco will be knocked out of the next round.

 

·       22% of Irish adults still think Brazil will win the World Cup, 17% think Germany will win, 11% think France will win and 11% think Argentina will win.

 

·       10% of adults aren’t following the competition as their home county team have not qualified/ advanced.

 

·       28% of adults in Ireland are not following the World Cup due to human rights concerns with Qatar and 2 in 3 believe Iran should be banned from participation.

 

·       Nearly 2 in 3 adults (62%) think that Iran should have been banned from taking part in the World Cup as they have admitted to supplying drones and other weapons to Russia.

 

·       The majority (86%) of adults think there should be more transparency in how countries are selected to host future World Cups.

 

·       63% of adults think financial transparency is important when protecting the integrity of future World Cup voting to select the Host Countries and 63% think voting transparency is important. 61% think Women’s rights is important and 54% think LGBTQ+ rights are important.

 

 

·       27% of adults were supporting Wales during the World Cup, 26% are supporting Brazil, 25% are supporting England, and 23% were supporting Spain.

Adults in Ireland will spend €56 million on Halloween this year down from €65 million in 2021.

 

·      44% of adults plan to celebrate Halloween returning to pre-Covid levels but still down from a high of 50% in 2017.

·      Of those spending on Halloween this year, the average spend is €36.22 down from €44.55 in 2019 (pre-Covid).

·      The total spend by all adults in Ireland on Halloween this year will be just under €56 million but down from €65 million in 2021.

 

Halloween is almost upon us again, and with the Bank Holiday Monday, and midterm break next week iReach Insights investigated how Halloween is celebrated in Ireland. In our recent survey, iReach Insights asked 1,000 adults about their plans for this Halloween and how much they think they will spend this year.

 

·       More people are celebrating this year at 44% up from 38% in 2021, with having a party still most popular form of event;  highest amongst 25-32-year olds at 40%, and amongst those living in Connacht at 36%.

 

·       22% of those living in Munster plan to attend a Halloween Experience this year compared to only 12% of those living in Dublin..

 

·       With some good news for the hospitality sector 14% of all adults are planning to go a Pub this year to celebrate Halloween highest in Ulster at 36%.

 

·       37% of adults will carve a pumpkin for this Halloween down from 40% in 2021.

 

According to Oisin Byrne iReach Research Director “This year’s research shows the impact on Cost of Living pressures on consumer spending in Ireland impacting on Halloween Celebrations with total spend down this year to just under €56million compared to €65 million in 2021. Fewer adults in Ireland are spending on Halloween this year with the average spend down to €36.22 in 2022 compared to €44.55 in 2021”

86% of adults are anxious about the predicated increase in energy costs this winter.

 

·       67% of respondents are expecting cuts or restrictions in electricity supplies this winter and 30% expect cuts or restrictions in motor fuel (petrol or diesel).

 

·       The majority (86%) of adults are anxious about the predicated increase in energy costs this winter, of these 44% are very anxious.

 

 

·       Over half (55%) think that the Governments plan to offer electricity credit to households will help with the rising energy costs.

 

·       With the recent announcement that the Government will ask people, not  force people, to reduce their energy consumption during the peak hours of 4pm-7pm this winter 23% of adults will reduce energy by up to 20%

 

·       1 in 3 adults (34%) are likely to invest in energy upgrades such as attic insulation and the servicing of boilers before this winter.

 

 

·       31% of adults are likely to increase their use of public transport in order to save energy. Of these 14% are very likely to increase public transport use.

3 in 5 Adults in Ireland say they’ll have to make cuts to cover increased fuel costs.

 

·       Gas is the most common fuel used for heating (40%), followed by Oil.

 

·       Top Oil (13%) are the top supplier for oil or solid heating fuel, while Bord Gáis Energy (37%) are the top electricity or gas heating fuel supplier.

 

·       The average monthly fuel costs for Irish adults in 2021 was €132, however, 71% have received notice of an increase in the cost of their heating fuel, averaging at a 15% increase.

 

·       Electric Ireland (34%) is the top supplier for electricity in Ireland.

 

·       The average monthly cost for electricity in 2021 was €129, with 79% receiving notice of an increase in this cost, averaging at a 16.5% increase.

 

·       3 in 5 (61%) adults in Ireland say they’ll have to make cuts to cover increased fuel costs.

 

·       85% have a car or cars in their household. Petrol is the most popular type of car motor fuel (50%), followed by Diesel (42%). 6% use a hybrid and 3% use an electric car.

 

·       The average weekly motor fuel costs in 2021 for Irish adults was €38. Since then, 87% have noticed an increase in costs of their motor fuel. The average weekly fuel cost increase is €14.71.

During the pandemic, 69% of those using online dating apps felt more insecure.

 

·      39% of adults have used or currently use a dating app. 61% of adults aged 18-24 have used a dating app.

 

·       The majority (79%) of adults who have used a dating app have gone on a date with someone they first met through an online dating site or dating app.

 

·       Nearly half (45%) of adults who have used dating apps have been in a committed relationship or married someone that they first met through an online daring site or dating app.

 

·       73% of dating app users have come across the dating profile of someone they already know offline.

 

 

·       69% of online dating site users found it easy to find people online that they were attracted to, while 63% found it easy to find someone online they shared interest with.

 

·       Over half (55%) found it difficult to find someone who was looking for the same type of relationship as them.

96% of adults have seen a rise on the cost of groceries in the last month.

 

·      The average amount spent by adults on groceries is €125 each week. 32% of adults spend between €51-€100 on groceries each week.

 

·       Nearly half (47%) of adults think the cost of their weekly grocery spend has increased by 11%-20%.

 

·       The majority (83%) of adults think the cost of groceries in Ireland is unacceptably high and 60% are worried about not being able to afford groceries if costs continue to increase.

 

·       48% of adults have been put under financial pressure due to the increase in costs of groceries.

 

 

·       56% of adults do their grocery shopping in Tesco, 55% do their shopping in Aldi, and 53% shop for groceries in Lidl.

 

 

·       37% of adults have seen a 21%-40% increase in the cost or meat and seafood. 28% have seen a 21%-40% increase in dairy.
