  • Technology advancements and the accessibility to news online has resulted in the decline of newspapers sales year on year. Interestingly in our new study, we found one in two adults in Ireland read newspapers and 73% prefer to read (in general) in print format rather than a digital format.
  • In a recent survey conducted by iReach Insights, 1000 adults were asked all about their reading habits and preferences. Over half of people in Ireland (55%) enjoy reading a lot, 30% somewhat enjoy reading and 15% don’t enjoy reading at all. Nowadays it’s becoming more common to read an e-Book or read books on tablets. Surprisingly, the majority (73%) of adults in Ireland still prefer to read a physical book/newspaper, 16% prefer reading online and 9% prefer an e-Book for reading e.g. Kindle.
55% of people in Ireland read quite often, 26% read sometimes, 19% of adults in Ireland read rarely or never as they don’t like to read. The question is now, what do people in Ireland read when they are reading? 75% of adults in Ireland read books, 68% read online articles [Male; 74%, Female; 62%], 50% read newspapers and 36% like to read magazines. Going deeper it’s emerged that of those that read books 62% are men and 86% are women, a trend that women in Ireland prefer to read books more than men.

We asked the Irish public what genre they like to read, more than the half of people in Ireland (54%) read crime novels, 50% like to read suspense or thrillers, 47% like reading biographies or autobiographies [Male; 56%, Female; 41%], and 33% of adults in Ireland like to read romance fictions [Male; 10%, Female; 47%].

In today’s world, everyone is constantly busy and on the go, but adults in Ireland still make the time to pick up a book.
