The majority (91%) are aware of the new Covid-19 tracking app and over half (52%) have downloaded the tracking app.

86% of people who have downloaded the app have been using it frequently and half (50%) find it easy to use

Following the release of the Covid-19 tracking app earlier this month, iReach has surveyed 1,000 adults in Ireland to determine their awareness of the app and their use of the app. The survey ran between the 9th July and 16th July 2020.

·      The majority (91%) are aware of the new Covid-19 tracking app and over half (52%) have downloaded the tracking app.

·     Half (50%) of all adults find it easy to use and 52% will continue to keep using the app.

in 10 (90%) Irish adults believe that holidays to countries with high rates of COVID-19 should NOT be permitted.

60% adults in Ireland would NOT be any more likely to travel abroad in 2020 to countries that have established ‘Air-bridges’ with Ireland, despite the lower risk of transmission of COVID-19.

According to Oisin Byrne, iReach Managing Director, “Consumers in Ireland are looking for clear direction from the new Coalition Government on Travel Restrictions to other counties and believe travel should be officially banned to countries with high rates of Covid-19”.

Following the establishment of ‘air-bridges’, between countries that have low or similar transmission rates of COVID-19, iReach has surveyed adults in Ireland to determine their revised holiday plans for 2020. The nationwide survey ran between 25th and 1st July and had 1,000 responses from adults in Ireland.

·      9 in 10 (90%) all adults believe that holidays to countries with high rates of COVID-19 should not be permitted. Those aged 55+ feel even stronger on this with 96% of this age group believing holidays to these countries should not be permitted.

·     60% of all adults would still not travel abroad in 2020 to countries that have established ‘air-bridges’ with Ireland (a travel agreement between countries that have low or similar transmission rates of COVID-19).

·     Those aged between 18-24 are most likely to travel abroad to a country with an ‘air-bridge’, with 59% of adults within this age group stating they would do so in 2020.

·     Following the re-opening of hotels in Ireland, 50% of all adults expect to take breaks and holidays in such venues in the coming weeks and months. This number is slightly higher amongst the younger generation with 59% of those aged between 18-24 and 52% of those aged between 25-34 hoping to make a stay in Ireland, in such venues, the coming weeks or months.

·     Over half of adults (53%) who wish to take these ‘staycation’ holidays hope to do so before the end of August of this year. Those aged between 25-43 are most determined to take a staycation before the end of August, with 77% of this age group stating so.

39% are now wearing masks and gloves since the Covid-19 outbreak first started. Individual worries have shifted from the Pandemic’s impact on the Irish economy to worries about their Jobs and Employment.

Last month, the Government advised that face masks or coverings should be worn in situations where social distancing might be difficult while an increase in demand for face masks has led to the publication of new safety guidelines by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

To gauge public reaction and impacts of Covid-19, iReach ran a nationwide Poll of adults in Ireland last March and again in May, running from the 21st to 27th. Each survey delivered over 1,000 responses and are nationally representative. We have compared shifts in attitudes in the 2-month period between late March and late May. Concerns for Jobs and Employment have increased since March.

·      39% are now wearing masks or gloves showing a significant increase since the outbreak first started.

·     53% have had to change their holiday plans overseas in order to avoid travel compared to the 25% in March who had planned to change their holiday plans.

·     29% of respondents are working full time from home which is an increase from the 11% who were working from home in March.

·     One in four (25%) are still stocking up on food with a further 6% of respondents still stocking up on fuel.

Top 3 Concerns for Worry Surrounding Covid-19

1.     Respondents rank the health of their family as their main concern for worry (with 89% ranking this as a top-3 concern) following the outbreak of Covid-19.

2.     Respondents then ranked their own health as their second biggest concern or worry surrounding Covid-19 (with 70% of respondents ranking this as a top-3 concern).

3.     There was a third concern over the impact Covid-19 would have on their jobs or employment (with 61% of respondents ranking this as a top-3 concern). This has replaced the impact on the Irish Economy as a Top issue for adults in Ireland.
