71% of adults living in Ireland state that they get sunburnt easily and 18%have already got sunburnt this year. Interestingly, more women (76%) state to get easily sunburnt than men (66%). This might explain the results, that 50% of women versus 40% of men try to avoid the sun for the health of their skin.
Nevertheless, 38% of adults state to intentionally expose their skin in the sun in order to get a tan. 15% think it is worth getting sunburnt in order to get a tan afterwards. In this case, more men (20%) than women (11%) agree.
Furthermore, 20% of the adult population has used sunbeds, even so that 97% of adults state to be aware of the dangers that are associated with sunbeds. Only 38% of those who use sunbeds are using any kind of skin protection (e.g. sun cream) while they are on a sunbed.
Again, more women (29%) than men (10%) have used sunbeds.

The majority of adults in Ireland (68%) think sunbeds should be illegal. Although more females are sun bed users, more women (73%) agree to this than men (63%).
16% of adults in Ireland have at least one family member which has or had skin cancer. But only 30% of people living in Ireland have ever got any moles or dark freckles check by a doctor and a quarter of all adults (25%) state to not be aware of the dangers associated with the sun.
Fortunately, in general the majority (88%) use sun cream and more than the half (52%) state to always wear sun cream when out in the sunshine.
In a nutshell, the majority of adults living Ireland (83%) think that sunshine brings more benefits to the body than harm – so let the sun shine a bit longer in Ireland.
