Ahead of International Woman’s day tomorrow, we have investigated the
differences between men and women when it comes to playing sport and exercising.
A nationally representative survey of 1001 people carried out by iReach
has found that more men (54%) take part in sport/exercise than women (40%).
This shows that on average under half (47%) of the adult population in Ireland
takes part in any kind of sport or exercise (as part of a team or individually).
Although more males partake in physical activity, of those who do
exercise, females exercise more frequently than males. The research reveals
that 60% of these females exercise 3 or more times a week, which decreases to
40% of these male’s exercise 3 or more times a week.
Interestingly females are more likely to play individual sports than
their male counterparts and males are more likely to play team sports. Of the
adult population in Ireland that does exercise, 24% play team sports [32% of
Males and 11% of Females], 50% play individual sports [42% of Males and 62% of
Females].
