St Patrick's day weekend seems like a distance memory now but at iReach Insights, we were interested in what people got up to for the long weekend.

We conducted a nationally representative survey of 1,001 adults in Ireland and we found that 81% of people in Ireland spent Saint Patrick's day at their place of residence, 15% spend it somewhere else in Ireland and 4% spent it abroad.

Half (52%) of adults in Ireland celebrated it and 28% of adults in Ireland have attended a parade. 19% spent time at home with family and friends and 17% went out for drinks.

48% stated that they didn’t celebrate St. Patrick's day. One in five (21%) adults in Ireland didn’t celebrate due to the crowds. 19% of adults in Ireland think that there are too many drunk people around on this day and 12% of adults don’t like parades.

Although Saint Patrick's day traditionally is a religious day, only 7% of adults in Ireland went to church. This differed throughout the ages, with only 3% of 18-34 years old going, 7% of 35-54 years going and 18% of 55+ years going to church.
