Despite some controversial views on St. Patrick’s Day among the adults in Ireland, it still remains one of the most popular and celebrated festivals all around the world


Overall, the majority (71%) enjoy St. Patrick’s Day.


64% believe that it portrays Ireland positively.


Nevertheless, 88% are worried that too much alcohol is consumed during this festival.



It’s that time of a year again, St. Patrick’s Day is approaching. Soon not only the streets of Dublin and Ireland as a whole, but also in many other parts of the world will blossom into green, white and orange. The spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day fascinates many people worldwide every year, but what do the adults in Ireland themselves think about this day?

A nationally representative survey of 1001 people carried out by iReach shows that 71% of adults in Ireland like Saint Patrick’s Day. This result is supported by the fact that 64% believe that St. Patrick's Day casts a good light on Ireland.

A large proportion (77%) of people in Ireland are proud to see that this national holiday is celebrated in many places around the world. 61% even assume that the parades outside the country are better than here in Ireland.

Nonetheless, 79% are concerned that St. Patrick’s Day feeds into Irish stereotypes of drinking. The majority (88%) thinks that too much alcohol is consumed on Patrick’s Day.

Moreover, 60% are afraid that St. Patrick’s Day is too commercialised nowadays.
