🏥Mental Health issues in Ireland on the Rise: 62% of people believe more people are suffering than in the past.🏥

49% of people don’t think that mental health is a topic that you can talk about openly in Irish society.

83% of people said that mental health still has stigma attached to it 

Only 29% think that there are enough helplines and easy access contacts in Ireland for people who would like to get help

Today is world suicide prevention day and mental health and considering this we recently conducted a nationally representative survey on 1000 adults in Ireland to find out how people in Ireland view the importance of mental health and how we can help those with mental health issues.

62% of people think that more people suffer from mental health issues today than in the past.  People between 35 - 54 are more inclined to have this view at 64% versus 18-34 years at 60% and 55+ years at 58%.

46% of people think that Ireland is less open to talking about mental health issues than other countries. In general, 49% of people don’t think that mental health is a topic that you can talk about openly in Irish Society. 83% of people said that mental health still has stigma attached to it (More female (86%) than male (79%)).

69% of people think employers in Ireland should take mental health days as seriously as sick days, but 71% don’t think that employers do.

82% of males and 93% of females surveyed said that mental health is important to them, but only 28% of males and 48% of females have ever thought about consulting a professional about any concerns.

Only 29% of people said that there are enough helplines and easy access contacts in Ireland for people who would like to get help and only 63% of people who have thought about getting help have gone to a professional. This is highest among the older generation 61%: 18-34 years, 60%: 35-54 and 78%: 55+ years.

The top 3 areas that people think can help people with mental health issues is 1. Education in school and universities (69%), 2. People being able to talk more openly about mental health issued (65%) and 3. Making services in Ireland more available to people.
