29% of adults celebrate Pride Month compared to 21% celebrating in 2021, equating to 38% more adults taking part this year.

The month of June was Pride Month, and as an important celebration of the LGBTQ+ community it is celebrated across Ireland. With this in mind, iReach Insights conducted a nationally representative survey of the opinions of 1,001 Irish adults on Pride Month and LGBTQ+ representation in Ireland.

Oisin Byrne, iReach Managing Director states “We have measured participation in Pride Month and especially Pride Parades since 2018. We see a continued increase in support and participation in Pride events across all age groups in Ireland, and most especially amongst younger adults in their late teens and twenties. In the last year alone, we have seen an net increase in participation of 8% across all adults from 21% in 2021 to 29% this year.  This equates to 38% more adults taking part in Pride events in 2022 over 2021.  The Pride Parade remain as the most popular single event across Pride Month.

·       The majority (77%) of adults aged 18-24 celebrate Pride Month.

·       67% of respondents know someone who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. This figure is highest amongst 18-24 year olds with 97% knowing a member of the community.

·       A growth of 8% from 21% to 29% equates to a jump of 38% more adults celebrating Pride Month this year than last year (calculation 8% divided by 21% or 29% divided by 21%).

·       14% of adults attended events for Pride in Ireland during the month of June compared to 8% of adults attending a pride event in 2021. Over half (54%) of 18-24 year olds attended Pride events in Ireland.

·       The most popular Pride events to attend were Pride Parades (52%), Pride Marches (15%) and Pride Festivals (12%).
