The
World Cup this year took place from June-July in Russia, with France as the
ultimate winners. The final was between Croatia and France, with high
pressure on both teams. This was the first time Croatia had appeared in any
World Cup final. Previously, the closest they had ever come was the final
four in 1998. Croatia has only appeared in the World Cup five times: 1998,
2002, 2006, 2014, and 2018. The French team won its first and only World Cup
in 1998, defeating Brazil. France last appeared in a final in 2006, losing to
Italy.

of respondents stated that their favourite thing about the World Cup is
seeing the world’s best football players for one month. Highest at 70% of
males compared to 40% of females. The next most common answer was an excuse
to meet up with family/friends and watch football (17% of respondents).

of respondents supported Spain, 23% supported Brazil, and 23% supported other
teams. 72% of respondents said they watched matches of teams they did not
support. 18% of respondents believed Brazil would win. This was also true for
Spain (18%), followed by Germany (16% of respondents) and other
countries (12% of respondents).
To
watch the matches, people primarily watch the TV at home (67% of total
respondents, 76% of males, 58% of females).
In
order to keep up with news about the World Cup, most people use the Internet
(56%), followed by Word of Mouth (34%), and newspapers (29%). In terms of
apps, people use BBC Sport the most (44%), followed by FIFA (42%), and 35%
other Apps.
